Over the past year or two, there had been some concern expressed by citizens and local business owners that the town of Holly Springs should make more use of local businesses.
The town uses local businesses for various goods and services in every possible opportunity. However, the town is, by no means, required to give business to anyone because they happen to be located here or a member of the local chamber of commerce.
The town has the obligation to find the best contractor or provider, at the best cost, with the best quality, giving our citizens the best value for their tax dollar. Towns, like Holly Springs, also consider the vendor's track record with the town, as well as other municipalities.
Yes, the town's use of local vendors is a good thing, but may not be possible nor appropriate for every circumstance.
