Non-profit grants and contributions

Each year the town budget has line items which provides grants to non-profit organizations as well as an annual contribution for the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. The intent of this was to provide funds to assist local civic organizations with their activities and projects. Some groups have relied on this yearly grant either for a specific project or for their operational costs. The town has provided as little as $500 to some groups to as much as $35,000 to the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. Each year a councilman heads a citizens committee to review the applications and make recommendations on the requested funding.

In the past, these grants have not gotten much attention, but I would suspect that this year they will get more attention from not only the town council, but citizens as well.

What is not mentioned in the budget is the amount of in-kind support that the town provides some groups as well. This is normally in the form of free use of the Cultural Center and town staff support.
