Non profit grants for organizations outside of Holly Springs

At the August 17 town council meeting, agenda item 9g, the town council will determine which organizations will get grants from the town as well as how much. (http://www.hollyspringsnc.us/gov/agendatc081710/9b.pdf)

Well, it appears that a committee comprised of two council members has recommended that $1500 of tax payer money go to a school outside of Holly Springs town limits, so they can purchase soccer and basketball goals.

This committee has also recommended a reduction in the amount requested by Holly Springs High School's "Hawks TV" organization. They have requested $2500 to purchase equipment for students to video, edit and produce shows for HSTV11. I understand that this will include high school athletics events. (HSTV 11 has reported that they have received lots of inquiries about more programming focused on schools.) This is perfect situation where the students (under a faculty advisor) will produce programs for the community to view, and at the same time, learn about television production. Unfortunately this committee has decided that their $2500 request is too much and recommended that they only receive $2000.

Please understand that this is a committee recommendation, not the final word. The final word will be delivered on August 17 when the entire town council votes on this.
